The Bricklayer (2023) Another flick I had very little to say after and watched at a time I was very much preoccupied so luckily I did immediately rate it. #jackmeatsflix
My quick rating - 5.2/10. Someone is blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it look like the agency is responsible. As the world begins to unite against the U.S., the CIA must lure its most brilliant – and rebellious – operative out of retirement, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy. That person is Steve Vail, played by Aaron Eckhart and from what I remember he did fine but was stuck with a mediocre script to work off of. Decent action surrounded by stupid dialogue. (That was the extent of my notes after watching)

Freelance (2023) If you're a fan of action comedies with a good mix of humor and explosions, this one is definitely worth a stream. #jackmeatsflix
My quick rating - 5.7/10. As a long-time fan of Christian Slater, I was eager to see how he would fare alongside John Cena in this flick, an action/comedy directed by Pierre Morel. The premise intrigued me enough. An ex-special forces operative takes a job providing security for a journalist interviewing a dictator, only to find themselves in the middle of a military coup and forced to survive in the jungle. Factoring in him being a lawyer and family man for the amusement in the story worked well. Cena plays Mason Pettis, the ex-special forces operative. His performance is solid, and Morel's decision to give him vulnerability instead of making him a superhuman fighter was the right choice. This added a layer of realism and relatability to his character, making the action scenes effective without being over the top. Cena's physicality is well-utilized, but it's his moments of struggle and resourcefulness that stand out. Slater, as Mason's quirky and somewhat reckless friend, offers a delightful performance. His charisma and comedic timing add a lot to the film, providing a nice balance to the action-heavy sequences. It's always a treat to see Slater in action, and he doesn't disappoint here in his limited time onscreen. Alison Brie, playing the journalist Claire Wellington, starts off as a typical damsel in distress but eventually surprises with a sudden shift to badassery. While this transition felt a bit abrupt, Brie handles it well, showcasing her versatility. Her chemistry with Cena is believable, and their banter adds a light-hearted touch to the film. Juan Pablo Raba, as the dictator, is a standout. His portrayal is well-acted, with the right amount of menace and humor. Raba's comedic timing is spot on, and he brings an unexpected charm to his role, making him one of the more memorable characters in the film. The comedy is more hit than miss. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, thanks to the strong cast and their delivery. The script manages to blend humor with the high-stakes action, keeping the tone light without undermining the tension. Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable ride. The action scenes are well-executed, and the decision to show Cena's vulnerability pays off. The performances, especially from Slater and Raba, elevate the film, and the comedic elements work well most of the time. While there are some abrupt character shifts, the film manages to keep you entertained from start to finish. If you're a fan of action comedies with a good mix of humor and explosions, this one is definitely worth a stream.

The Crew (2009) Luckily I gave this one a rating because, beyond my initial thought, I don't recall any of this one. Not a great sign but it was during the accident. #jackmeatsflix
My quick rating - 5.3/10. Hoping to raise enough capital to finance a legitimate business and leave behind his life of crime, Liverpool underworld boss Ged Brennan (Scott Williams) sends his brother Ratter (Kenny Doughty) and a crew to pull a daring final heist. But when Ratter kills a drug kingpin during the job, Brennan must turn to rival crook Franner to avert an all-out gangland war. I would love to elaborate but there is nothing about this movie that has stuck in my memory from when I viewed it in early January 2024.

My quick rating - 7.8/10. This flick has rightfully earned its spot as the featured trailer of the week, setting the stage for an action-packed spectacle that will keep you glued to the screen. From the moment the film begins, you're thrust into a relentless barrage of hand-to-hand combat that lasts a solid 45 minutes before the main storyline even begins. This movie effortlessly transitions from a Die Hard scenario on a train to a full-throttle revenge flick, thanks to the introduction of a one-man army portrayed by Lakshya. The plot kicks off with an army commando who discovers that his true love is being forced into an arranged marriage. Determined to derail this plan, he boards a New Delhi-bound train, setting the stage for a daring quest. However, the real action begins when a gang of knife-wielding thieves terrorizes the passengers. The commando springs into action, taking on the criminals in a brutal, death-defying kill spree to save the innocent lives around him. What should have been a typical commute transforms into an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride. Lakshya's performance as the commando is nothing short of spectacular. His portrayal of a man who abandons all rules to save the ones he loves is both intense and captivating. The sheer brutality of the fight scenes, combined with the high stakes of the situation, makes for an unforgettable viewing experience. The choreography is top-notch, with each fight sequence more intense and creative than the last. I found it crazy it was able to maintain such a high level of tension and excitement throughout its runtime. The film doesn't shy away from showcasing the raw, visceral nature of combat, and the body count is definitely something to behold. If I were still doing body count movie reviews like back in high school, this film would undoubtedly rank high on the list. In summary, this is a must-watch for action enthusiasts. With its relentless combat sequences, compelling storyline, and a standout performance by Lakshya, this film delivers on all fronts. It's a brutal, exhilarating ride that will leave you breathless and eager for more.
#chadgetstheaxe (2022) You get 4 irritating streamers heading to a house that was a former home for a satanic cult and you get no gore or quality kills, just a headache. #jackmeatsflix
My quick rating - 3.1/10. I am sure this will be another narcissistic pile of crap but we shall see. Four social media influencers livestream their trip to Devil's Manor, the former home of a Satanic Cult. Things don't go well. And as the violence ramps up... so do the views. 15 minutes into this flick and I cannot decide who I root for to die first. They are all excruciatingly painful to listen to so hopefully someone will be "mashing" an axe into them and not the subscribe button. Someone in the comments that have been streaming the whole time just said "how to get rid of the comments. so irritating." Strange how I was just wondering if those were going to go the entire friggin' movie. It was creative enough to use their constant need for streaming to show different perspectives of the narrative. Everyone watches Blair Witch and thinks "I can do that" and this is further proof YOU CAN. That movie sucked and so does this one however that movie had brilliant marketing behind it while this is just another shitty example of found footage. You do see the killer, or killers in this one but that doesn't lead to any quality kills or gore. The ending just turns into the scares you get at a community haunted house, strobes and all. I won't get into the acting and say they were terrible since that is exactly what they were supposed to be. If you are told to be irritating young adults desperately craving attention by the writer (Travis Bible) and you turn in that performance, mission accomplished. Speaking of writing, there really isn't a single thing going on here that hasn't been touched upon countless times in other horror flix and very often done far better. I did notice that Bible is more known for his editing and that might be the highlight of this movie since that is done well flipping between different streamers for points of view. Overall, this one showed up and is already gone in the 83 minutes it took to watch it. I can only recommend this one if you are on a quest to see every first-person handicam horror tripe you can get your eyes on. Or you are a glutton for punishment like me. BTW, the comments went on throughout the entire movie. You have been warned.
