Boy Kills World (2023) This is a flick that will appeal to fans of high-energy, blood-drenched action with a touch of surrealism I believe got pushed out before The Crow release. #jackmeatsflix
My quick rating - 7.0/10. Excellent fight choreography, especially in the final fight. Very bloody movie from start to finish. Boy Kills World is a visceral, high-octane action film that thrusts viewers into a chaotic and surreal landscape. Directed by Moritz Mohr and starring Bill Skarsgård as the titular Boy, the film is a fever dream of violence, revenge, and transformation. The narrative kicks off with a humor-filled flashback sequence that sets the tone for the movie's blend of dark comedy and brutal action. We learn that Boy, a deaf-mute with a vibrant imagination, has his world shattered when his family is ruthlessly murdered. Escaping into the jungle, Boy encounters a mysterious shaman who takes him under his wing. The shaman's training forces Boy to repress his imaginative tendencies and mold him into a relentless instrument of death. Skarsgård delivers a compelling performance as Boy, balancing the character's initial innocence with the grim determination of a hardened killer. Skarsgård's portrayal is both physical and emotive, capturing the internal struggle of a man who must shed his former self to survive and seek vengeance. His adversaries played by Jessica Rothe and Brett Gelman both add unique characters along the way to add to the mayhem and do so quite well. The film's action sequences are its standout feature, with choreographed fights that are nothing short of spectacular. Each battle is a masterclass in stunt work and cinematography, culminating in a final fight that is both exhilarating and brutally intense. The violence is unrelenting and graphic, painting the screen red from start to finish. This is not a film for the faint-hearted; it's a blood-soaked journey that revels in its own excess. Visually, the flick is a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors and stark contrasts, reflecting Boy's repressed imagination and the grim reality he inhabits. The direction and editing create a disorienting yet captivating experience, immersing us in Boy's fragmented world. While the film's narrative may feel secondary to its style and action, the thematic exploration of loss, transformation, and the suppression of one's inner world adds depth to the spectacle. The shaman's role in Boy's metamorphosis is both enigmatic and pivotal, offering a mystical layer to the otherwise gritty tale. This is definitely a unique entry in the action genre, blending over-the-top violence with a visually striking aesthetic and a darkly humorous undertone. It's a film that will appeal to fans of high-energy, blood-drenched action with a touch of surrealism. Just be prepared for a wild, unapologetic ride through the twisted journey of a boy-turned weapon.
